Tuhin Basu and Associates, Inc. possesses considerable experience in the design of Mass Transit structures. We provided design services on the Largo Blue Line Extension Project for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). This phase of the $434 million project includes the 3.1-mile extension of the line, trackwork and systems for the Blue Line from the existing Addison Road Station to the proposed station at Largo Town Center in Prince George's County, Maryland. The project is the first segment to be added to the 103-mile Adopted Regional System and is the largest single construction contract awarded in the history of WMATA.
As part of design/build team of LGS Joint Venture with Jacobs Civil, Inc. as the lead designer, our firm was responsible for the final design and preparation of construction plans for the following facilities on this design-build project:
Twin thru-girder steel bridges carrying inbound and outbound tracks;
A 400-foot long reinforced concrete tunnel "boat section" supporting both inbound and outbound tracks, and adjoining approach transition slab;
Aerial Structure ‘G’ consisting of two curved girder bridges with supporting piers and abutments carrying inbound, outbound, and spur tracks;
High Rail Access Structure No. 2 including the single span steel aerial structure and the connecting reinforced concrete ramp structure;
Retaining Walls ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘E’ consisting of approximately 200 feet of retaining wall adjacent to Aerial Structure 'G'; and,
Retaining Walls at several different locations
Our firm also provided construction support services for this design/build project including shop drawing reviews and responding to contractor questions during construction.
