Project: South Carolina Route 38 Widening
Sections 7 & 8,
Dillon & Marion Counties, SC for SCDOT

Tuhin Basu & Associates, Inc. provided engineering services
for the preparation of preliminary design and right of way plans
on a project requiring realignment and widening of
approximately 10 miles of SC Route 38/US Route 501 in Dillon
and Marion Counties, South Carolina.  SC Route 38 carries
heavy traffic from I-95 near Florence to US 501 towards Myrtle
Beach.

Approximately 5 miles of this route will be widened from a rural
2-lane roadway section to a 4-lane divided highway section
(Section 7).  The remaining section of SC Route 38 will be
realigned and will require an interchange at SC Route 38/US
Route 501 intersection with new ramps and bridges (Section 8).

Several interchange configurations were evaluated for the SC
Route 38/US Route 501 interchange including a three-leg
interchange with a fly-over and a modified trumpet interchange.
The selected interchange configuration has a single structure
taking US Route 501 over SC 38. The proposed realigned
segment of the project has issues such as archeological,
business and residences, churches, and wetlands.   TBA
joined SCDOT and CRM East in organizing and holding a public
information meeting for this project.  TBA prepared exhibits,
flyers and handouts for this meeting.  Specific services
provided for this project includes alignment studies, assistance
with preparation of the EA document, public meetings and
public hearings, drainage/hydraulic design, utility coordination
and preliminary ROW plans.

TBA additionally provided final design services for Section 7 of
the project.  Specific services provided during final design
included preparation of final construction plans, final ROW
plans, drainage design, utility coordination and preparation of
maintenance of traffic plans.
