Bridge Inspection
Tuhin Basu & Associates, Inc. (TBA) provided bridge condition
inspection, evaluation and rating services for Maryland State
Highway Administration contracts on a task order assignment
basis for two consecutive three year contract periods (2001 and
2004). Under these contracts, our assignments have included
the condition inspection, load rating analysis, and rating of a
variety of bridge types including multi-beam steel and timber
bridges, prestressed concrete bridges, concrete slab bridges,
steel thru-girder bridges, masonry arch bridges, curved steel
girder bridges, steel truss bridges, steel pipe arch and concrete
box culverts. Our assignments have also included the inspection
and rating analysis for a fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite
deck panel structure, one of the few currently in service in the
state of Maryland.
Our field work for these contracts includes a hands on, in-depth
inspection of all superstructure and substructure elements. TBA
was responsible for providing all personnel and equipment
necessary to accomplish the inspection. Special equipment
utilized as part of our inspection effort included the use of
snoopers and bucket trucks. We also supervised the underwater
inspection work performed by the diving subcontractor.
Each assignment culminated in the preparation of a
comprehensive inspection report for each bridge. These reports
typically include a summary of the field inspection findings, rating
analysis results, cost estimates for maintenance repairs, and
photographs. These assignments also included the preparation
of SI&A and PONTIS data and the input of this data into the state’
s bridge management database.
In total, TBA has inspected over 150 bridges in various counties
including; Baltimore, Cecil, Dorchester, Prince George's, and
Washington Counties.
